Cassie & Mara: Colorado Wedding

One must dare to be happy.
— Gertrude Stein

Cassie & Mara are blissfully happy. They lead lives that choose their happiness whether it be living together in Hawaii, traveling together, supporting each others careers and now marrying each other.

In their ceremony their officiant made mention that October 7, 2014 was when it became legal in Colorado for Cassie and Mara to even get married. A right that was hard fought and won in our lifetimes, lest we take it for granted.

It was most noticeable though that Cassie and Mara make each other happy. Mara, remarked over coffee at how Cassie is amazing at her work and how inspiring it is to watch her challenge herself. Cassie when she told the story about how she almost passed out from altitude sickness. Mara became concerned for Cassie when she noticed that Cassie was acting “off” and her strong nursing intuition sprang into action and began nurturing Cassie without prompting. Cassie said she could have been really sick if Mara hadn’t noticed before she did that she needed some care.

I watched as Cassie and Mara wrote vows to each other a week before their legal wedding and they committed their lives to eachother. I witnessed their families come from far and wide to celebrate their love together. When you dare to be happy, you dance, and Cassie rapped her way through Eminems lose yourself at their reception surrounded by love. At the end of the night they placed a brick into the ground to remember the day. Here are the photos from it all.
